Introduction to roleplaying

Hey everyone.

Since many of us are not familiar with roleplaying, let's go over some basic details.

Introduction

Roleplaying (as stated earlier under information) is usually a long story with more than one author and always written in third person.

Characters

You can roleplay an original character (someone you come up with) or a "cannon" character (someone from a book, movie, etc.). You can also use one or more characters on there. The first post of a roleplay, added by its creator or initiator, must state the maximum number of characters allowed. Also, we recommend not to create more characters than you can handle at a time; at least till you get used to this new format of story writing.

Introducing your characters

There are two ways to introduce your character.

Bio Form- recommended for first time roleplayers

The bio should include some basics on it and end up looking something like this:

Name:
Gender:
Age:
Appearance:
Personality:
Other:

There will be other things that you may need to add for different roleplays, such as powers, weaknesses, etc. The parameters should be specified by the initiator in the first or leading post.

Paragraph form- recommended for roleplayers who are ready for some challenge

This covers the same material as the bio form in a paragraph style. It is usually longer then your typical post. It is a lot easier to learn by example. So, I'll show you one.

"A faint smile rested on Lydia's lips, as usual. The wind was blowing sections of green hair in her face, and she was enjoying the peace and quiet for once. She was sleepy, but the nights were just so peaceful. She couldn't help it; just because she wasn't a regular priestess didn't mean that she didn't enjoy the night air. There was just something extatic about it. Something that made her feel like a kid again.

Her green eyes lit up as she saw a flash of red in the corner of her eye. Anna roaming the wild forests, no doubt. Lydia laughed again as she though of how different her adopted daughter was from her. She reminded Lydia of herself as a child, before...

She sighed, tilting her head back to stare up at the open heavens. If only the world was as simple as it appeared at night; clean, crisp air, bright stars and a large moon as guides, and peace and quiet.

Little did she know that nighttime was about to get a lot more complicated."- How to roleplay.

You want to end with a cliffhanger, which can take a while to master, but don't be frightened.

As you can quite see, I prefer to use the bio form, but you can use whichever one you like to.

After defining your character

After you have introduced your character, you will have to wait until the roleplay starts. This will be after at least two characters (and more if needed) are introduced. Creators of roleplays: Do not forget to mention this in every roleplay introduction.

Out Of Character

If you want to say something to another roleplayer or want to make a note, you would use Out Of Character or OOC for short. The most common forms are double parenthases (()) or OOC:. Variations of either are fine. However, if you use the OOC: version, please make sure to put BIC: (Back In Character) if you post something for your character afterwards.

That is it. Please read "Rules of Roleplaying" before participating in any roleplays. There are some extremely important concepts that I need to go over before you participate. The link is: http://www.poemsnprose.com/node/1242 Please read it before you participate..
